Affirmative Action for the presidency ?

John Jay in Federalist No. 2 writes the following:

“When the people of America reflect that they are now called to decide a question, which, in its consequences, must prove one of the most important that ever engaged their attention, the propriety of their taking a very comprehensive, as well as a very serious, view of it, will be evident.”

The media is biased for the left. Anyone other than the casual observer of current events or someone who is intellectually dishonest knows this. We’ve had polls, studies and in some instances, admissions to this fact, yet no changes have been made. They have looked at it, admitted it and continued as if it’s “no big deal”. This, of course, is not anything new in American politics; however, in this election cycle it has gone from an obvious bias to something far worse. At minimum they are guilty of incompetence. Many, me included, would say that a fraud is being perpetuated on the American people. Liberals complain about Fox News, yet ironically they have been one the few outlets that have actually done their job on coverage with equal time and coverage for both parties. This is a far cry from the joke that is NBC news.

For 2 years the media have covered Obama and promoted him. They have asked no tough questions, covered up his flaws, gaffes, associations with far left and dubious characters, and actively cheer leaded for him. When Obama has been asked tough questions, they have come from outside the media and the media then turns into an attack dog on the person asking the question. The treatment of “Joe the Plumber” is chilling. That a private citizen could be investigated and treated in that manner for having the audacity to ask a presidential candidate a simple question about taxation should give us all pause. Any other outlet that might ask Obama the hard questions has been avoided, while McCain and Palin both have done the hard interviews.

The treatment of Sarah Palin has been despicable. More time has been spent dumpster diving in Alaska and looking at her clothing bill than any other candidate in recent history. The feminists groups have exposed themselves. They are for promotion of women as long as they hold a far left view. None of the questions and scrutiny applied to Palin has ever been applied to men in similar circumstances. Many say she has done poorly. I think any other candidate would have folded and she has performed brilliantly. Should McCain lose the election, it is my deepest hope that she will seek the nomination four years from now.

Democrats in congress brought you this financial mess, not GOP economic policies. If there was a Republican to pin this on, you’d be hearing it every day, like the word “macaka”. There’s not a lot of coverage of who is responsible for this mess is there? Dems like Barney Frank and Chris Dodd saw no problem with Fannie May and Freddie Mac. They blocked any reforms or legislation that would have reined them in. The mortgage mess was created by a liberal program, aided by groups like ACORN, pushing lenders to make loans to people who could not pay them. Consider for a moment that the mortgage industry is less than 5% of the national economy. Obama and Dems want to nationalize health care which is over 25% of our economy. If you thought the mortgage crisis was a mess, just wait.

Since the media have failed to ask a few simple questions of Dems and Obama, let me explore just a few. Since Obama seems to say that “this is not the man I knew” or “he’s just a guy in the neighborhood” when a questionable, long term relationship comes up, is it safe to say that he is unqualified to be president since he lacks the ability to understand people and their leanings, in some cases for as long as 20 years? How do you encourage growth, invention, or people elevating themselves when they know they will be punished with demagoguery and higher taxes? How does this not encourage laziness? Will we be bailing the lazy out with even more taxpayer money? How do you create more jobs when taking funds from the people who create them to “spread the wealth around”? When faced with another economic or foreign policy crisis (which Biden has guaranteed us with an Obama presidency) will you say “call me if you need me” or vote “present”? Will you and your political thugs continue to silence your critics or anyone that asks a tough question, starting with me? Do you intend to implement the far left education agenda of your past, fellow board member Ayers to “radicalize” the student population? Your friends in the congress are preparing a far left socialist policy to implement with supermajorities, including seizing 401k accounts and putting them in social security and nationalized health care. Is this your agenda, or are you just an empty suit who will go along with your party as you have your whole career? Do you intend to do this job before running for another one? Do you agree that now is the time to reduce military spending 25% like your friend Barney Frank does? How do you answer the charge that you are the most inexperienced, liberal candidate for president in a lifetime? Will you spend more time running for re-election than you do in the office as you have done for your brief senate career?

The founding fathers specifically alluded to the importance of an informed electorate. This is critical to a representative republic. It is the media’s self described job to do this. More and more people turn to the internet for news, with no basis for checking facts and many in the press lament the negative campaigning in the election cycle, yet nobody states the obvious. If the media did their job much of this would not be taking place. I hope the media take a good hard look in the mirror and return to journalism as it should be. I can also only hope that Americans will do their due diligence on the two candidates before casting their vote next Tuesday, because clearly the media had not done this for them. The media is lost in the chance of a first black for the presidency, which I have no objection to if the candidate is qualified. Yet with the lack of exploration to this candidates qualification, is this not affirmative action for the presidency?
